Venice Salute by Colin Ruffell
This is the view from the Academia Bridge across the Grand Canal close to the Guggenheim Museum.
Colin and Fran went to Venice for the first time in Autumn 2003. They stayed for a week next to the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal, and fell in love with the ancient city like so many artists before. The history, architecture, food, hospitality and art heritage were just as imagined. The Venice Biennale with art pavilions from countries from all over the world was a bonus. The Guggenheim Museum and Doges palace [Palazzo Ducale] were wonderful, and a guided tour of Basilica San Marco with rising tides flooding the area around the Campanile was memorable, as were evenings freely listening to competing musicians from the Café Florian and other venues while the sun set across St Marks Square. Colin has produced this suite of Venetian images, which were directly inspired by their visit.
